Overview
Acronis Cyber Protect is backup and endpoint security software for businesses from Acronis, headquartered in Schaffhausen. It combines image and file-level backup, immutable backups and continuous data protection with anti-malware, exploit prevention, vulnerability assessment, patch management and, in the cloud-managed version, endpoint detection and response. It protects Windows, macOS and Linux machines, mobile devices, VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, Proxmox and other hypervisors, and Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace data. The Standard, Advanced and Backup Advanced editions differ in features and supported workloads; managed service providers use the separate Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud platform, and consumers the related Acronis True Image.
The product is managed either through the Acronis cloud console or through a management server installed on the customer’s premises, with backups stored locally, in the Acronis cloud or both. Acronis operates its own data centres and also uses Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure; customers choose the region. Acronis opened a Swiss data-centre location in 2016, but its current public pages do not list data-centre locations, so present availability in Switzerland could not be confirmed.
Acronis was founded in Singapore in 2003 and has its research and development centres in Bulgaria, the United States, Israel and Singapore. The Swedish investor EQT has been its majority owner since 2025. In September 2025 the US Director of National Intelligence issued an order under the Federal Acquisition Supply Chain Security Act excluding Acronis products and services from US intelligence community systems; the reasons were not published.

- NoInferred[8]
Acronis is headquartered in Schaffhausen, but its research and development centres are in Bulgaria, the United States, Israel and Singapore.
- HostingIs customer data hosted in Switzerland?
- Unknown / not verified
Not verified for 2026. Customers choose the Acronis data-centre region for cloud backups. Acronis put a data centre in Zurich-West, operated by a Swiss data-centre provider, into service in 2016, and it has since listed Switzerland among its data-centre countries. Its current data-centre and sub-processor pages do not name locations, so the present availability of a Swiss region could not be confirmed. Acronis runs its own data centres alongside regions on Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. With local deployment, backups and the management server can stay entirely on customer infrastructure.
