Overview
Magnolia DXP is a Java-based content management system and digital experience platform for large organisations that run many websites, brands, channels and languages. It combines a visual page editor with headless delivery APIs for decoupled frontends, and adds digital asset management, personalisation, analytics and AI features. Connectors are offered for commerce, DAM and marketing systems such as SAP, Salesforce, commercetools and Cloudinary.
There are two commercial editions. DX Core is installed on the customer’s own infrastructure, on premises or in a private cloud. DX Cloud is a managed platform-as-a-service that Magnolia operates on the cloud the customer selects, including hyperscalers and Swiss and European providers, so Swiss hosting is an option rather than the default. Magnolia states that it is certified to ISO 27001:2022 and SOC 2 Type 2. An open-source Community Edition under GPLv3 continues to be released.
Magnolia was founded in Basel in 1997, released its first open-source version in 2003 and has been majority-owned by the German investment company GENUI since 2022. Prices start at EUR 3,000 per month for DX Core and EUR 5,000 per month for DX Cloud.
Why it may be a Swiss alternative
Magnolia DXP is operated by Magnolia International AG, which is headquartered in Münchenstein, Basel-Landschaft. Headquartered in Switzerland, but ultimately controlled by a company outside Switzerland.
Swiss hosting is available for part of the service or as an option — check the hosting details below before relying on it.
